It's impossible to truly believe that nearly 30 years have passed since Don and I met and first talked about the recently released film, Dreams, by Akira Kurosawa. From there, we spent weekends dreaming, and making home videos which referenced our lives, Ingmar Bergman, Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, James Joyce, James Brown, Sylvia Plath, David Bowie... Like a brother, it is difficult to remember a time where I did not want to share with him first...good news, bad news, the news...We lost our dads, I became a dad, we fell in love, out of love, got sick, got better...for now. We've collaborated for decades, in conversation, in art objects, and objections, meeting each others friends, lovers, and family. This begins a purposeful trilogy (or perhaps more) of albums. Words by Don Sandeen, Music, by me. We recorded this one, Outsider/Insider, over the span of a week or so. The poems are connected by theme, but also by time. I'm not sure who is the outsider, and who is the insider. Only that we, (you included) are almost always in the process of being both...
